Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta and is home to more than 750 000 people, with over 1 million people in the greater Edmonton area. Located on the North Saskatchewan River, it is the northernmost city with over 1 million people. While a major economic centre for the oil and gas industry, Edmonton has the second most diverse economy in Canada with a very strong technology sector. The technology sector is supported by many research initiatives anchored by institutions such as the University of Alberta and the National Research Council.

River Valley
The Edmonton River Valley is the largest expanse of urban parkland in North America, being 8 times larger than Stanley Park in Vancouver and 22 times larger than Central Park in New York. Spanning along 48 km of the North Saskatchewan River there are 150 km of trails and 22 different parks. The University of Alberta Main Campus is located adjacent to the River Valley, and is within walking distance to numerous parks including William Hawrelak Park and Emily Murphy Park along with many kilometres of trails that the River Valley is famous for.
West Edmonton Mall
West Edmonton Mall is the largest shopping centre in North America, and is currently the fifth largest in the world. It is home to over 800 stores and services, including an indoor amusement park and the largest indoor water-park in North America.
